Who We Are

Stroke Survivor’s Support & Rehabilitation Club of Nigeria:

We’re here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke.

How We Got Started

A meeting of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapists (OGNSP), Ogun State Chapter Executives was held on the 14th of July 2007, at the Physiotherapy Department Ijebu Ode, where it was suggested that the association should further extend their services to stroke survivors. After much deliberations, the excos came to the the conclusion to establish a support group for stroke survivors and their informal caregivers.

The club is meant to represent the interest of those that have survived stroke and other disabling conditions and those caring for them (close relatives), to be a voice to those living with stroke and dead stroke victims.

Our Mission Statement

Improving the quality of life of stroke survivors in the presence of their disabling conditions.

Our Goals/ Objectives

  • To create a platform on which stroke survivors can come together and interact.

  • To serve as an advocacy group for stroke survivors and their caregivers.

  • To establish a forum in which problems (physical, emotional, and career) facing the individual member can be discussed and solution proffered.

  • To make government to look into the possibility of taking over the responsibilities of caring for stroke survivors.

  • To bring to the awareness of government and private sector the fate of stroke survivors and other health related conditions resulting into disability.

  • To enlighten the public about this crippling diseased and a societal problem that could affect the old , middle age, and not sparing the Young anymore.

Our Programs

We embark on various projects and campaigns to create public awareness on stroke causes, symptoms and survival mechanisms. Our aim is to make people know that stroke can happen to anybody – young or old, and when it does it doesn’t have to be a death sentence if proper treatment and support is given.

Annual World Stroke Day

World Stroke Day is observed on October 29 to underscore the serious nature and high rates of stroke, raise awareness of the prevention and treatment of the condition, and ensure better care and support for survivors.
