Coincidental! The year’s World Stroke Day Commemoration clashed with SSSRCN Bi-Monthly Programme.

On Friday, the 29th of October, 2021 at the Physiotherapy Gymnasium Complex, FMC Abeokuta, people came from all corners of the city to enjoy the exciting and educating session at this year’s World Stroke Day which collided with the SSSRCN’s bi-monthly programme.

The theme of World Stroke Day 2021 is “Minutes Can Save Lives,” which set the basis of the programme of the event.

The event kicked off around 8:30 am with stroke survivors and other attendees consulting with the doctors after checking their vitals, blood sugar, and BMI. Eight doctors from the Neurology Team in FMC Abeokuta were on standby to consult with each person according to his/her needs. This continued till the event started.

The ever-vibrant PT. Owoola, a speaker and member of SSSRCN anchored the event alongside Mrs. Adeleye Osimhiarherh representing the FMCA Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and Abeokuta Stroke Foundation (ASF).

Highlight of the Event! Drama Presentation.

It was an interesting and educative event as a drama presentation was made by interns and students from the Department of Physiotherapy, FMCA which left the audience in awe as they enjoyed every bit of the drama which focused on the theme “Minutes Can Save Lives.”

The drama portrayed an aged father and son who led different lifestyles, but they still came down with stroke. The difference was evident in the way the people around handled the situation at the point where they had the stroke.

Kola’s Lifestyle

The drama showed that people act based on the information they have. While the father was fortunate to be with an informed wife when he had his, his son, Kola’s stroke was met with ignorant co-workers who steered clear of him and consequently wasted precious MINUTES that COULD HAVE SAVED his LIFE.

That was an interesting one! Let’s see what happened after the drama presentation.

Interactive Session with the Multidiscplinary Team

This year’s world stroke day was an interactive one with speakers from various specialties in the hospital who listened aptly and responded well to all questions from the stroke survivors.
